Chennai: Against the Citizenship Amendment Act, the DMK and its allies took out a big rally in Chennai today and there was a demand to withdraw this law. DMK President MK Stalin, Congress leader P Chidambaram, MDMK leader Vaiko and leaders of the state unit of Left parties were present in this huge rally.
The rally was from Egmore to Raj Ratnam Stadium. Apart from the workers of all these parties, the general public was also present in this rally of about 2 km. Let us tell you that from the time this law is passed, the DMK and its allies are attacking the BJP government at the Center including the AIADMK, continuously in the state. Let us tell you that the ruling party of the state AIADMK supported this bill of the Center in the Rajya Sabha including the Lok Sabha. Due to which it was easy to pass this bill from Rajya Sabha. Police arrangements were also made for this huge rally in which 5000 policemen were present on security duty and drone cameras were also deployed. Actually, the Chennai police refused to allow this rally. After which the Madras High Court was knocked down and while hearing on Sunday, the Madras High Court had ordered the entire rally to be monitored by drone cameras.
The Madras High Court gave a final directive on the PIL opposing the rally late on Sunday night after being informed by the counsel for the Tamil Nadu government. Actually, this rally was not allowed by the police as no solid commitment was shown by the organizers on responsibility in case of any violence and property damage.
While hearing this, the Madras High Court said that peaceful demonstration in a democratic country cannot be stopped because it is the backbone of the democratic system. The court then directed the police to videography the protests if necessary and also use drone cameras so that any illegal incidents could be monitored.
After getting the green signal from the court, this huge rally was addressed in Chennai. In this rally lasting 2 kilometers, all the leaders including Stalin, P Chidambaram, Vaiko reached the Raj Ratnam Stadium on foot with a plaque card in hand. The leaders demanded the withdrawal of this law. DMK President MK Stalin said that we will not stop until the Modi government of the Center withdraws this law. Earlier, the DMK also attacked the Center and the state government for not including the Sri Lankan Tamils in this law. Also said that there is a betrayal of Tamils.
