Relief is reported for those who have not yet done the linking of PAN and Aadhaar for any reason. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued an order ordering extension of PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline to 31 March 2020. The CBDT has issued a statement saying that the fixed date for PAN and Aadhaar linking mentioned under sub-section 2 of section 193AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 has been extended from 31 December 2019 to 31 March 2020.
The CBDT, which framed the policy for the Income Tax Department, said that a notification has been issued in this context. Let us know that the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking was 31 December 2019.
This is the eighth time the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline of a person. As per section 193AA (2) of the Income Tax Act, any person who has a PAN card from 1 July 2017 and is eligible to take Aadhaar, is required to give information of his Aadhaar number to the tax authority.
The Unique Identification Authority of India issues Aadhaar to the citizens of India. At the same time, PAN card is issued by the Income Tax Department to a person, firm or entity.
In September last year, the Supreme Court had declared the central government’s Aadhaar scheme as constitutionally valid and said that it would be mandatory for filing income tax returns and allotment of PAN.
